The challenge

As part of a wider succession planning and futureproofing exercise, the need for a Head of Strategy & Transformation for this client was identified.  This individual needed to possess an understanding of the aspirations, desires, and core values of a prominent construction enterprise that was aiming to lead innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity within the field.

Our challenge was not only to find a Strategy Leader but one attuned to the intricacies of the construction sector, its history and the imperative for transformative change.

As with any executive search, identifying the person is not the only task. Contacting and engaging with that individual is another significant challenge, especially when they are moving from an established and relatively stable industry (Management Consulting) into an industry with traditionally high-risk and low margins.

The Cellence Plus approach

For this role it was important to cast our net far and wide and think out of the box to find the ideal candidate. Extensive research was conducted across the prime business advisory groups and also across forward-thinking, like-minded industries that could potentially contain individuals of interest.

Over time, we nurtured meaningful connections to not only pinpoint a proficient leader in Strategy & Transformation but also someone possessing a background in Civil Engineering and an early career trajectory within the same sector. This very specific search helped us find an expert who could start making a difference right away.

Success and outlook

The successful recruitment of a Strategy & Transformation leader, whose early career was rooted in the construction industry, has been a great success. Their seamless integration and swift adaptation into our client’s business has minimized the transitional risks associated with changing industries and enabled them to become a valued member of the team immediately.

We are pleased to say that their rapid assimilation has already facilitated the prompt initiation of impactful changes that have already improved how the company operates across all its businesses.
